Update #2

hello valuable prayer partners!

thank you for thinking of me over the past week!  we are having a most blessed time learning and growing accustomed to the chinese culture.  thank you also for praying for my first day of class.  i have now taught for almost an entire week, and it feels so natural to me!  i love my students and really enjoy being their teacher as well.  i pray that we will be able to discuss some more spiritual issues over the next few weeks.  please pray that i will have time outside of class to meet with them.

there are also three girls who are young believers that I would like to meet with and encourage.  one girl has only believed for a few weeks.  please pray that i'd be able to share with her some more thoughts on following Jesus.

and as for the team, please pray that we will be able to bond more and spend more meaningful time together.  we're getting along well and opening up, but pray that we will do so even more and allow Jesus to transform our lives this summer!

thanks for thinking of me--your prayers mean so much.

Missions update

Greetings from Northwestern China!  We've only been in the country for 5 days, but it seriously feels like home already.  The team and I have been getting orientation sessions from our hosts, Jeff, Melissa, and Jo.  They are all super nice, and we are really trusting God for a wonderful and life-changing summer.

Jeff and Melissa have been working in this city for 4 years now.  They work with students at a university fellowship--training, equipping, and encouraging them.  We had a chance to spend time with some young believers on Friday afternoon, and I was really encouraged by their love for each other and their willingness to welcome me.  Please pray that I will have a chance to go a bit deeper with these students.  One girl only accepted Jesus a couple of weeks ago, and I would really like to help her grow.

On Saturday night, we went to the fellowship at the church.  We were divided into small groups, and two non-believers joined our group.  I believe it was God's providence, because HoiYuk, one of my teammates, got a chance to share her story, and it left a huge impression on one guy (call him Charles).  When we got home that night (totally exhausted, but blessed), the phone rang.  Charles called HoiYuk and said that what she said seemed very sincere, and his heart was moved.  So he asked to have lunch with her today.  She invited me along.  Over hot-pot (extra hot because it's summer!), I had the wonderful chance to witness HoiYuk present the gospel in a clear and meaningful way to him.  We also discussed issues such as doing the will of God, what grace means, and who Jesus claimed to be.  It was totally exciting.  And although Charles is not yet ready to accept, his heart is hungry for more.  Please pray that he will see that he does not need all of the answers before he makes a decision to follow Him, and pray that he will receive a revelation from God this summer.

Beginning Monday, we teach 3 hour English classes in the morning.  These will be our main missions work this summer.  I'm a bit anxious about teaching the first day (as I usually am on first days).  Please pray that I will trust God with more =)

As for the team, please pray that we will be sustained by the word and by spending time in His presence.

Thanks for your prayers.  they are so meaningful to me =)

China-bound!

We leave today as a team! HoiYuk and another girl, Emily, who is from Canada, have already left.  They will meet us over there on the 18th.

Some prayer requests:
-wisdom as we travel.
-bonding time for the team.
-that i will learn to lead wisely.
-that we will be safe and also healthy!
-that we will all be filled with the Holy Spirit.

For correspondence, feel free to email me at my normal email address.  The email will be read by a filter person who will then send it on to me at an undisclosed email location ;)  Xanga will also be updated by my filter person, and i will not check it until i get back to the states.  if you'd like to write me comments, please send them via email.

Thank you for this totally exciting journey you are supporting me on.  I pray that God will bless you through it.

Training in Winter Park, CO

Please pray for this upcoming weekend, as the team and I will be meeting face-to-face for the first time!  I am so stoked about meeting these six precious teammates =D

Pray specifically for:
-prepared hearts.  we really want to be fertile soil for God to grow conviction and preparation in.
-love for each other.  it isn't easy to love people, but pray that we would be united by Christ's love starting now and extending into the summer and beyond.
-team dynamics.  pray that we'll learn about how to handle conflict in a Christlike manner.

i look back fondly on my time in Winter Park with Team Thai ('05)--we bonded instantly, and learned so much about each other right away.  i really don't want to compare this year to the past, because i know God is going to do a new and GOOD work in this team.  Yay!

thanks, friends =)  your prayers are so valuable to me.
